This business is a leader in the area of electron microscopy coating and cryogenic preparation. Due to maternity they are looking to appoint a Research and development scientist on a fixed-term contract of at least 9 months.
You will be supporting internal innovation and helping to deliver the highest possible value and quality for customers. The role will act as an interface between marketing and engineering, translating broad product ideas into specific concepts and test specifications. You will play a key part in guaranteeing product quality.
Some experience with electron microscopes and expertise in methodologies for sample preparation (e.g. coating, critical point drying, cryo) is essential, and some experience of vacuum technologies and deposition techniques would be ideal.
You will be able to use your strong problem solving, critical thinking, coaching and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to challenge and question while maintaining positive relationships are required.
You should have the ability to plan for and keep track of multiple projects and deadlines; coping with rapidly changing demands on time and prioritising jobs according to urgency. Familiarity with new product development processes and procedures would be ideal.
You should have a degree in Physics, Chemistry or related technical discipline, and some experience with design of vacuum equipment or scientific instrumentation would be an advantage.
Knowledge of applicable regulations and standards affecting scientific instrumentation. Familiarity with SAP Business One would be an advantage.
There is some travel involved to meet suppliers and customers (about 10% of the role) and you should have your own transport.
